With Yahoo’s brand refresh, Cannes presented the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the brand to the advertising world in a bold, ownable way. Inspired by the “Motel” archetype—a space for discovery, connection, and nostalgia—we built Motel Yahoo, a fully immersive destination that invited delegates to “check-in, log on.” Drawing from the mid-90s, we created a setting where vintage internet vibes met modern marketing innovation and where elevated and contemporary architectural finishes met retro inspired graphics and illustration.

Motel Yahoo was a vibrant, all-day experience for delegates—mixing business, culture, and play—with a distinctly Yahoo lens applied. We plotted different brand verticals across the guest experience, creating natural moments to storytell, rather than relying on traditional “demo” moments. Guests were invited to relax, enjoy meetings and deep-cut insights whilst also joining morning paddleboard sessions hosted by Yahoo Sports, sending branded postcards home thanks to Yahoo Mail, absorbing Yahoo’s Guide to Cannes at the well-informed Yahoo Newsstand and trying SEO inspired cocktails at the Yahoo Search Bar. The space was peppered with delightful details, all geared at bringing a charming but thoughtful layer to guests’ experiences. There were break-in-case-of-emergency champagne cases in the meeting rooms, phones where guests could hear the nostalgic sounds of dial-up or call room service and a very playful Yahoo-inspired minigolf course. Midweek, Motel Yahoo turned up the volume—hosting a Wednesday night party headlined by Diplo which was one of the week’s most talked-about moments and a celebration that truly captured Yahoo’s energy and evolution.
