Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical

Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical redefined immersive theatre. It was a world-first hybrid of cinema and live theatre, enabled by a groundbreaking licensing deal that allowed the original 1978 movie to be stopped and started while performers sang live in front of the screen. This unprecedented fusion created a format that was innovative, scalable, inclusive and set a new benchmark for the immersive industry.

Staged at Evolution London, the production transformed Grease into a fully participatory 360° world. Guests began outside at the Rydell High Fairground, enjoying rides, games and themed food and drink. The film played on multiple screens whilst a 30-strong cast performed against them, creating an innovative fusion of film and live performance. The production welcomed over 82,000 guests, with 92% attending Secret Cinema for the first time, becoming the highest-selling summer show in company history. Critical acclaim included over 50 four and five star reviews, praising ambition and execution. Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical demonstrated that immersive theatre can be creative, inclusive, commercially viable and a blueprint for the sector's future.
