London New Year’s Eve: Live Broadcast Spectacular

Jack Morton

Client: Greater London Authority & The Mayor of London

The London New Year’s Celebration is one of the most iconic fireworks displays in the world. We were challenged to replicate our success from the previous year with a major caveat - to celebrate the city’s diverse cultural heritage.

We set out to create a memorable experience that transported our audience through storytelling and theatre into a live experience. For the first time, we integrated live performances, telling the rich story of a city’s diverse culture, and how this diversity helped us through tough times. A story of connectivity and togetherness, with a shining picture of hope. This unique television event featured a beautiful medley of rich narrative and technology in a live, 13-minute, dynamic broadcast. The backdrop, a spoken-word piece written by Tomfoolery, which paid tribute to the incredible efforts made throughout the pandemic. We gave the new theatrical show a brand-new stage, lighting up the skies above the Borough of Greenwich and bringing to life popular landmarks such as The Old Royal Naval College. And at the forefront, our team of specialists utilised 500 drones to create the largest drone-lighting show seen in the UK. The results? An incredible 10 million live viewers on the night plus 7.1 million replays on iPlayer post event.
