Xero had three key objectives in mind for its Xerocon Brisbane event – which is affectionately referred to as the ‘Coachella for Accountants’ by virtue of its ability to fuse the corporate with the fun and playful: to create an inspirational and educational experience that would encourage networking.
As a tribute to the ‘sunshine state’ a Miami theme was devised for the main event and brought to life across touchpoints including a custom-built pink pool filled with 250,000 balls, a basketball court where attendees could shoot hoops with NBA stars, and a putt-putt golf course with neon signage and live plants.
Fenella Kernebone, the head curator of TEDxSydney was brought on board to curate the guest performance and speaker program in the keynote theatre, which hosted them on a 360-degree custom-built stage. For the Xero-specific breakout sessions an x-shaped lighting installation was lowered into the space and washed it in different colours, an effect that created individual stages – ensuring a sense of unity and ease of navigation.
Day one concluded with networking drinks, where Lionel Cole was flown in from Los Angeles, and ‘Brisvegas’ themed wrap party – which was inspired by the event’s host city – took place at the end of day one. Held at theatrical night club Cloudland, the party comprised five themed room activations.
